I believe it was sometime last month that I read an article written by a member of Faso.  It was their take on re-working a painting.

An artist usually knows  if they have captured that bit of magic that makes a painting sizzle....maybe it tells a story or draws the viewer in and tends to hold them there.

When I finished "Nature is the Artist" I was pleased with the painting.  However after it had been around for awhile ....I couldn't find the magic.  The recent article I read came to mind  and I thought "what do I have to lose".  Re-working a knife painting definitely has its challanges!!  However, I threw caution to the wind and just went for it.  Added lots of intense warm colors to the the grasses and leaves...pounced splashes of color on the white birches and let the sunshine drift along the path.  Now I see the magic.  One comment I received was "It looks like someone turned the lights on."

The first invitational show that I entered - the first painting to sell was one of my poppies and I have been painting and selling them ever since.  Usually I tried to compliment the poppies with other flowers.  However, this one is all about those flirty, saucy poppies.  Again I finished this painting with my magic little knife by bouncing color and life all over my canvas.  This must be done with complete abandonment and freedom.  Knife painting is not for sissies.

I have not been painting for the last couple of months.  Sometimes life makes it difficult to go to that special place one needs to go to create art.....finally I have completed this little painting.  Once I was happy with it - I took my magic little knife(it is shaped like a little hand complete with fingers) and danced bits of color all over it.  Results "The Big Boys" is bouncing with joy as only the sunflower can do.
