The title says it all - daisies are the symbol of gentleness and purity. The folk name is "Measure of Love".
I so enjoyed doing this painting. I had been looking for a little inspiration for the last month for colors to fill my stark white canvas ( it can be intimidating). I received this inspiration from posts that an artist from Florida sent me. Susan Coulis owner of "The Crazy Bead Chick" - her posts are filled with the most amazing color combinations....check her out. Once I had the colors in my head, my knife flew across the canvas - laying down splashes of color.....the swirls had a mind of their own and knew where they were going. Thank you Susan, I am sure I will continue to look back at your palette for a little inspiration.
I have to say that "Sweet....sweet Daisies" is the artist pick of the month - maybe even the year!!
I painted this floral and set it aside where it lay dormain for a while. It just wasn't grabbing me. Finally I decided to hang it at the top of my stairs - it did add the little color that I was looking for. Later, as I was walking up the stairs, the sun was hitting the painting and suddenly it did not just come to life; it literally sparkled. It was no longer the wallflower at the dance - it was the belle of the ball. The million of tiny flowers - little specks of yellows, blues, aqua and white daisies along with citrus green grasses played up the firey poppies against a soft blue sky. This is the stuff dreams are made of....and artist are always chasing a dream.
Chase your dream until you run out of breath...........then, keep running.
Daisies...the folk name for these humble flowers is "Measure of Love". I am sure everyone remembers plucking the petals of these little flowers while repeating "loves me ....loves me not and being devastated to learn he loves me not. The daisy is the symbol of gentleness and innocene.
I finished this painting about a month ago. It was very quiet - almost shy. The grey, blue sky and earthy greens didn't compliment the daisies. It stood in the corner of the studio whispering to me, but I couldn't hear it. On an impulse, I sat it back on the easel - filled the sky with rich blues and added a lot of yellow greens to the foliage and grasses(using my finger at times to do this). The deeper colors gave new life to the daisies....they are no longer shy.
Now my painting is talking to me and I can hear it.
I welcome all comments!
Monday morning I happily finished this painting. I did a lot of scrapping and repositioning on this one before my eyes were satisfied with what they saw. Monday evening "Jane and her daughter Sarah" dropped by to have a peek at my work. Jane wanted a new painting for her home. Although I had never met her, we talked like we had known each other forever . Jane decided on "Tomorrow...you dream". She got the painting she wanted and I had felt like I had made a new friend.
It was a great Monday. 2014 is looking good for me. However, I really have to get busy on my painting.
Have a great day!!!
"My painting takes me to another place". I wrote this in my artist statement. For the last few months I have been finding it hard to get to that special place .....However I am happy to say I am back. Just completed this little painting and have several in the works.
After I had the blues for the sky (nothing comliments a daisy like intense blue skies) and the green grasses in place, I used very heavy texture and peppered the background area with bits of color to suggest tiny flowers. This was done with complete abandonment and freedom - throwing caution aside. .......added my daisies - stood back and felt good about this painting and happy to be back in my special place. Thus my title "Feeling Good" .
An added note: Twenty minutes after posting "Feeling Good" sold. "HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!
